# Crawler IP Verifier — licenses and attribution

**Original developer:** Alexander Kyriakou
**Original project:** https://alexanderkyriakou.eu/ak/crawler-ip-verifier
**Copyright:** © 2026 Alexander Kyriakou

## 1. Scope

The original **software code** developed for this tool—including input parsing, IP address and CIDR matching, user-agent interpretation, evidence assessment, filtering, exports, and dedicated HTML, CSS and JavaScript interface code, plus project-specific dataset publishing and DNS verification code identified by these notices—is made available under the **Common Public Attribution License Version 1.0 (CPAL-1.0)**, subject to the completed project-specific attribution information below.

The **original prose, explanatory examples, original page design and creative styling, and original diagrams/illustrations** are separately made available under **Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)**, to the extent they are owned by Alexander Kyriakou and are not separately marked otherwise. CSS code used to implement the interface is treated as software under CPAL-1.0; independently copyrightable visual design and expressive elements are covered by CC BY 4.0. Where a reused component contains both software and creative material, both applicable licenses may need to be respected.

These grants apply **only to the Crawler IP Verifier and its specifically identified assets**, not to unrelated parts of alexanderkyriakou.eu or its repository. Third-party code, libraries, fonts, screenshots, logos, and other outside contributions retain their own rights and licenses and are not relicensed here.

Published crawler ranges, provider documentation, DNS responses and other third-party source data are not relicensed by these notices. Original code that retrieves or processes them is covered only to the extent Alexander Kyriakou has the rights to license it. Shared website assets are included only when expressly identified as part of this project.

## 2. Software — CPAL-1.0

- **SPDX identifier:** `CPAL-1.0`
- **Official, complete license text:** https://opensource.org/license/CPAL-1-0
- **Required for a distributable source release:** include an unmodified copy of the complete CPAL-1.0 license text in a companion `CPAL-1-0.txt` file, along with the completed notices below. **This project-specific Markdown file alone is not the complete CPAL license.**

CPAL permits software use, modification and redistribution under its conditions. Among other things, it includes requirements concerning availability of covered source code, documentation of modifications, copyright notices, and attribution in applicable graphical interfaces. Section 15 addresses externally deployed/network-accessible implementations. Read the entire license before reusing the code.

### Completed Exhibit A and Exhibit B

The applicable full-length project-specific source notice and attribution fields are published in [`crawler-ip-verifier-NOTICES.md`](https://alexanderkyriakou.eu/assets/licenses/crawler-ip-verifier/crawler-ip-verifier-NOTICES.md). They identify Alexander Kyriakou as both Initial Developer and Original Developer, with the required Section 14 attribution phrase and URL, including in Larger Works. Include the completed Exhibit A notice in covered source files in the manner required by CPAL Section 3.5.

The complete, standard, unmodified license terms and blank exhibit templates are retained in [`CPAL-1-0.txt`](https://alexanderkyriakou.eu/assets/licenses/CPAL-1-0.txt). The separate project notices supply the filled-in values; they do not rewrite or replace the underlying license.

**CPAL-1.0 only for this software:** the Initial Developer does not offer an additional alternative software license in the project-specific source notice. This does not alter permissions CPAL itself grants.

### Displaying attribution

Where CPAL Section 14 applies to a graphical interface, the attribution information must appear prominently when the application is launched or initially run, including session initiation. Section 14 regulates prominence and duration. A visible, clickable link is encouraged for web-based derivatives, but a permanent clickable backlink is not an independent CPAL requirement. For GUI-less applications Section 14's GUI display requirement does not apply.

The required attribution information is:

> Copyright (c) 2026 Alexander Kyriakou. — Based on the Crawler IP Verifier by Alexander Kyriakou — https://alexanderkyriakou.eu/ak/crawler-ip-verifier

## 3. Creative material — CC BY 4.0

- **License:** https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
- **Full legal code:** https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode

For the covered creative material, users may share and adapt it, including commercially, subject to the actual CC BY 4.0 terms. Give appropriate credit to Alexander Kyriakou, provide the source URL and a license link, and indicate changes. Attribution must not imply endorsement.

Suggested attribution:

> © 2026 Alexander Kyriakou · [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) · [Source](https://alexanderkyriakou.eu/ak/crawler-ip-verifier)

If modified, add an indication such as “Adapted from the original; changes made.”

## 4. Boundaries and exclusions

- The software license does not automatically apply to third-party code or independently licensed assets.
- The CC BY 4.0 license is not intended as the primary license for the verification logic and other software code.
- Reuse of underlying verification methods, technical standards, IP addresses, DNS records or other facts is not equivalent to copying copyrighted implementation or expressive content.
- All names and links identify the original work; they do not imply endorsement of modified products.
- Nothing here is an additional restriction overriding the text of CPAL-1.0 or CC BY 4.0.

## 5. Distributing the project

For a complete source release, include: (1) the full, unmodified CPAL-1.0 text; (2) this scope and project-attribution document; (3) required Exhibit A notices for covered source code; (4) applicable source-availability and modification records; and (5) applicable CC BY 4.0 attribution for reused creative content. If a third-party contribution or asset has another license, preserve its required notices.

This document describes intended coverage and completed attribution fields. It is not a substitute for the authoritative licenses or professional legal advice.
